Famous for its marvelous Mughal monuments and architecture this city has an amazing story attached to its origin.According to the legends Akbar visited the khanqah of Sufi Saint, Shaikh Salim Chisti, who predicted the birth of his male child. Same year Jahangir born and as a gesture Akbar built this auspicious town. Akbar named it as Fatahabad meaning ‘Victory’ which was derived from a Persian word Fatah. But in the year 1585 due to the shortage of water and the proximity of the area to the Rajputana neighborhood this Indo-Islamic masterpiece was left behind. As mention earlier this palace has many historical monuments which must be visited in order to understand the importance of Fatehpur Sikri in Indian history.

  • BulandDarwaza
    Akbar build this Mughal architecture to celebrate his victory over Gujarat.BulandDarwaza, also popular as the “Gate of Magnificence”,is made of red sandstone,marble and granite inlays. Apart from the amazing Mughal craftsmanship it also displays the religious tolerance of the great Mughal king Akbar, phases from the Bible is written on the main gate in Persian words.
  • Diwan-E-Khas
    Built for the special people and religious leaders, this royal chamber of Emperor Akbar is one of the most beautiful buildings of Fatehpur. Decorated with amazing floral design, precious stones and four ChhatrisDiwan e Khas shows the uniqueness of Mughal architecture.
  • Tomb of Sheikh Salim Chisti
    Made of white marble the tomb of Sheikh Salim Chisti is located in the courtyard of Jama Masjid.Decorated with brightly colored flower murals and mother of pearl shell, this tomb is surrounded with carved jalis for practicing circumambulation.
  • Jama Masjid
    The first building in Fatehpur, Jama Masjid is the largest mosques in India. Built under the guidance of Salim Chisti, this mosque is made of red sandstone and white marble.Decorated with ingenious geometrical patterns, colored in brown, red, turquoise, black and white, Jama Masjid is the most notable tourist spots of Agra.
  • Panch Mahal
    Pyramidal structure, Panch Mahal is supported by a total of 176 columns. Build for the musical concerts and other entertainments, this wind catcher tower is located in front of beautiful AnoopTalav.
  • Jodhabai Palace
    Popularly known as Mariam-Uz-Zamani Palace is a perfect combination of Rajputana and Islamic style. This palace was made with special care for Akbar’s Rajput wife, Jodhabai.
